The Annual Meeting

HWLF kicks off each year with its Annual Meeting. In addition to eating delicious food and enjoying each other’s company, the Annual Meeting provides a unique opportunity for the legal community to gather and mingle in a social setting — it’s a fun time for the HWLF board (which includes newly elected or re-elected board members), judges, lawyers, business community members, and non-profit community partners to catch up with each other. At the Annual Meeting, we recognize the honoree of the Rhoda Lewis Award, which is named after the first female member of the Hawaiʻi Supreme Court and which is presented to a woman attorney who has devoted her career to public service.

The Mothers’ Day Project

Another event that brings HWLF and Hawaiʻi Women Lawyers together with others in the legal community, students from the University of Hawaiʻi William S. Richardson School of Law and the John A. Burns School of Medicine, and other friends, is the Mothers’ Day Project. The volunteers spend Sunday afternoons for two months before Mothers’ Day sorting, packaging, and creating gift bags containing new, gift-quality hand and body lotions, toiletries, cosmetics, and cosmetic bags. The gift bags are distributed to foster children and children who are houseless, among others, so that they can say “Happy Mother’s Day!” to a special person. This is such a wonderful, fulfilling project that will always put a smile on your face! For more on the Mothers’ Day Project, click here.

The HWLF Fundraiser

The biggest event of the year is the HWLF Fundraiser, with an entertaining program in which judges and attorneys sing and dance in colorful costumes. Proceeds from the Fundraiser enable HWLF to provide grants for projects and programs that support women and children in need or that advance women in the legal profession. Details about this year’s Fundraiser and past Fundraisers can be found here.

We hope you will be able to join us at these events throughout the year.
